Organize the interface, wiring and installation requirements for your assembly. Include mating part numbers, material requirements and critical dimensions so fit and supply options can be reviewed against drawings and samples.

Strain relief and molded cable exits

Specify cable diameter, exit direction, clearance and fixing method, including the panel opening or enclosure interface. Review mechanical support and sealing separately; an overmolded appearance does not establish waterproof performance.

SELECTION AND ACCEPTANCE

Define where the sealed cable assembly must keep water out

A sealed connector face and a sealed finished cable assembly are different test boundaries. Show the installed arrangement, mating state, and cable support so the requirement describes actual use.

Mark three sealing boundaries

Identify the connector mating face, rear cable exit, and complete assembly or enclosure entry. State which are included in acceptance testing. If the enclosure or counterpart is outside the supply scope, specify who provides it for validation and which interface remains outside the test result.

Why writing IP67 alone is not enough

Consider a connector tested while mated with its specified counterpart. That result does not by itself establish protection when unplugged, or validate a different jacket, cable exit, or enclosure entry. Identify the standard, test configuration, exposure, duration, and acceptance criteria. Apply the test requirement to the complete installed configuration.

Cable exit direction and jacket transitions

Mark straight or angled exit, orientation relative to the key, bend location, and cable support. An unsupported bend near the exit can load the sealing interface. Jacket diameter, surface condition, and sealing materials also need review. A gap at the jacket transition can leave a water path even when the mating face is sealed. Validate the installed arrangement rather than only a loose connector.

Sample validation and production inspection

Validate samples with the intended counterpart, cable construction, exit orientation, and installation fixture. Agree the environmental test and checks before and after it. In production, separate every-assembly checks from sampled environmental or destructive tests. Define continuity, shorts, seal seating where applicable, dimensions, and any agreed leak test. Record the configuration, drawing and material revisions, lot, method, acceptance criteria, and results. Review material or exit changes before assuming earlier validation still applies.

Can you confirm a waterproof rating from a drawing alone?

A rating should not be assumed from a drawing alone. The required standard, test method, materials, and validation scope must be confirmed before quotation and publication.

What environmental information should be included?

Share exposure to water, dust, chemicals, temperature, vibration, movement, and installation constraints wherever available.
