PVC, PUR and silicone describe material families, not complete cable specifications. Two cables with the same jacket label can have different permitted temperatures, flexing conditions and resistance to the fluid used in your equipment. Start with the installation and then compare the exact cable constructions offered for it.

Also distinguish the outer jacket from the insulation around each conductor. The jacket protects the cable construction and forms part of a seal or clamp interface; conductor insulation has its own requirements. A jacket choice does not establish conductor size, voltage rating, shielding or connector suitability.

PVC: compare the actual formulation and use conditions

PVC is a candidate for many general wiring and connection applications, but it should not be accepted or rejected on oil resistance by name alone. LAPP documents oil-resistant PVC formulations as well as PUR options. Match the proposed cable's stated resistance to the particular fluid and exposure rather than assuming all PVC behaves alike. For a protected equipment lead, ask for the operating and installation temperature limits, permitted movement, outside diameter and relevant material documentation. If the lead is only repositioned during servicing, describe that separately from continuous machine movement. A simple application brief is more useful than asking for a universally better jacket.

PUR: investigate abrasion and moving-duty requirements

PUR constructions are often considered when abrasion or mechanical wear matters. However, PUR on a jacket label does not qualify the complete cable for a drag chain, torsion or a specified lifetime. Manufacturer selection tables distinguish cable constructions for different moving duties; LAPP's motion-cable selection table illustrates why the application must be specified separately.

Describe bend radius, travel, cycle requirement, speed and acceleration where relevant, and whether twisting occurs. Identify oil, coolant, cleaning agent or moisture exposure by substance and conditions. Request supporting data for the actual candidate cable rather than applying another product's results to the entire material family.

Silicone: separate thermal flexibility from mechanical protection

Silicone constructions may be useful where thermal requirements and flexibility drive selection. They still need a mechanical review. HELUKABEL's SiHF guidance highlights the need for protection under significant mechanical stress and for checking outdoor suitability by specific construction. Its published values apply to that product, not automatically to every silicone cable. See the manufacturer's SiHF notes.

Ask how the proposed silicone cable is supported near sharp edges, clamps and connector exits. Do not transfer a bulk cable's temperature capability to the finished assembly without checking the connectors, contacts, seals and labels. All components and the installed arrangement must be assessed for the intended conditions.

Check the jacket where the assembly grips and seals it

A cable change can affect more than flexibility. Compare outside diameter and tolerance with the gland, seal, clamp or backshell. Review the jacket surface and compatibility with any overmold or potting system. Where sealing matters, qualify the actual assembled construction and agreed test boundary; a polymer name cannot establish an IP rating.

Consider a cable approved for a fixed sensor connection. If the same lead is moved to a cleaning area with repeated flexing at its exit, the original jacket description is no longer a complete requirement. The change needs a review of fluid exposure, movement, support and sealing. This is a selection example, not a tested Yuefu product configuration. Compare offers with the same selection record

For each candidate, record the cable part number and datasheet revision; conductor and insulation construction; jacket material and outside diameter; fixed, installation and moving temperature conditions; bend or torsion requirements; chemical and outdoor exposure; and the supporting test or qualification information. Keep unknowns visible instead of filling the table with generic material values.

Then compare the complete assembly cost and suitability, including termination, strain relief, testing and packaging. A different jacket can require a different seal or assembly process. Do not approve the change on cable price alone, and do not assign flame, halogen or compliance claims solely from PVC, PUR or silicone in the description.

What to send for a jacket recommendation

Send the equipment application, installation photographs or drawing, cable route, required length, movement and environment, connector interfaces and known cable requirements. If a cable is already approved, send its exact part number and datasheet. If the material is open, ask for candidate constructions and the evidence needed to choose between them.
